Description

Galatea; the Living Statue

Long ago, Galatea was carved of stone and stood beside a Temple of Aphrodite where all praised her beauty and splendor. There her smooth stony skin was kept polished, and the people draped her in brilliant silks and fine linen, but as the years wore on less people came to the Temple and it was birds and other animals of the forest that made friends with Galatea. She did not mind when her hair became overgrown with moss and flowers, or when her friends made their home upon her. Yet Galatea was lonely. She missed the talk of the people, and the colorful clothes she had once had. Aphrodite heard Galatea's unspoken sadness and gave her a great gift, unable to make the people come to Galatea, she gave Galatea life and the ability to seek out the people. Now, as a living girl Galatea explores a world entirely new to her, while keeping the friends that she had all along.

Galatea is a 24 inch handmade cloth doll with movable legs and arms. She can wear newborn infant clothing and is appropriate for girls to play with. The flowers and ornaments in her hair can be removed, as can her dress. She can be hand washed. Doll can not stand on own.
